Chance of rain continues in San Bernardino, Riverside counties

RIVERSIDE — A chance of light rain will continue Friday in most parts of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, and snow could fall in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

A low-pressure system currently over central California will linger longer than expected before leaving the region by Saturday afternoon, forecasters said. A chance of rain will continue until Saturday morning everywhere except the Coachella Valley.

A winter weather advisory expired at 4 a.m. Friday in the Riverside County mountains and the mountains communities in San Bernardino above 4,000 feet.

Snow levels will be around 4,500 feet Friday morning before rising to about 5,000 feet Saturday morning.

Idyllwild could get trace amounts of snow through late Friday night, forecasters said.

NWS officials warned that the snow could limit visibility and make roads slippery, so motorists should use caution while driving.

Rainfall totals through Saturday afternoon could reach two-tenths in the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning, but rainfall totals everywhere else will be less than one-tenth of an inch.

The chance of measurable precipitation Friday is 30% in the Riverside and San Bernardino metropolitan areas and the mountains, while the San Gorgonio Pass has a 20% chance.

High temperatures Friday could reach 63 degrees in Riverside, 67 in the San Gorgonio Pass, 68 in the Coachella Valley, 42 in Idyllwild, 58 in Temecula and 61 in Hemet.

As of 4:15 a.m. in the Riverside County area, Friday, Vista Grande and Keenwild had received the most rain over the last 48 hours, 1.06 inches each, followed by 0.83 in Angeles Hill, 0.82 in Beaumont, 0.75 in Gilman Hot Springs, 0.71 in the Banning Bench, 0.63 in Allandale and Tick Ridge, 0.54 in Cranston, 0.52 in Idyllwild and Pinyon Pines, 0.49 in Cabazon, 0.46 on Mount San Jacinto, 0.44 at the Riverside March Air Reserve Base and 0.39 in Lake Elsinore and Temecula.

In San Bernardino County, Lytle Creek received 0.94 inches of rain, with 0.90 in Lake Arrowhead, 0.71 in Chino Hills, 0.67 in Ontario, 0.65 in Devore and Murrieta, 0.62 in San Bernardino, 0.51 in Yucaipa, 0.44 in Highland, 0.43 in Lake Elsinore, 0.39 in Temecula, 0.36 in Rialto, 0.29 in Ontario, 0.23 in Perris, 0.14 in Running Springs, 0.10 in Big Bear, and 0.08 in Norco.

As of late Thursday, two-day snow totals include 2 inches in Big Bear, 1.5 in Lake Arrowhead, 1.0 in Running Springs and 0.5 in Crestline.

Dry weather is expected beginning Saturday afternoon, but another low-pressure system is expected to arrive late Sunday night and bring mostly light rain into Thursday, forecasters said.
