San Bernardino County reports 8 new coronavirus cases

Eight new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus were reported Sunday by health officials in San Bernardino County, bringing the total for the Inland county to 17.

No deaths attributable to COVID-19 have been reported in the county.

“There is a fairly even distribution of cases throughout our county. No one should assume the virus is not present in their community. We must presume and behave as if the virus is everywhere,” said Acting County Health Officer Dr. Erin Gustafson.

Gustafson urged residents to comply with the statewide stay-at-home order issued Thursday, calling it “essential to our continued health and safety.

“These orders are not intended to spark panic, but rather reduce the spread of infection and minimize the number of people who get sick at any one time,” Gustafson said.

Among the COVID-19 cases in San Bernardino County is Big Bear Lake Mayor Rick Herrick, who the city said on its website had tested positive for the coronavirus and is expected to recover.

Herrick said in the announcement made Friday, March 20, that he is continuing his duties from home.

Herrick was the second-highest vote-getter in the March primary election for the California 33rd Assembly District and will face Thurston Smith in the November runoff.
