University of Redlands student doesn’t have coronavirus, but spring sports are canceled

A University of Redlands student under evaluation for the novel coronavirus is “no longer of interest” for COVID-19, according to a statement released by the university on Friday, March 13.
The student had been transported to a hospital for evaluation for the disease on Wednesday, the same day the university announced many classes would transition to online by March 23.


On Friday, it was announced all students in study abroad programs were asked to return home, and all of the university’s spring sports competitions have been canceled.
“The health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff remain our highest priority, as the university continues to work closely with county health authorities and to follow U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines,” university officials said in the statement.
San Bernardino County, meanwhile, has called for the cancellation or postponement of all large gatherings. As of Friday, the county had reported no confirmed case of COVID-19.
