COVID-19: Railways Cancels ALL Passenger Trains Till June 30; Will Refund Full Amount

NEW DELHI: Railway Ministry has said that regular passenger service including Mail, Express, Passenger and Suburban Services have been cancelled until further advice. It said that all the booked tickets for the above trains for the period up to June 30, 2020, will be cancelled and a full refund will be generated.

However, the ‘Shramik Special Trains‘ and Special passenger Train services which started from 12th May of this month, shall continue to operate.

Railway has also issued an order for the refund of fare in case passenger is not found fit for travel due to symptoms of coronavirus.

The tickets of regular trains, which are being cancelled, were booked during the lockdown period when the railways was allowing bookings for journeys in June.

The order states that if during the screening a passenger has very high temperature and symptoms of coronavirus, the passenger will not be allowed to travel despite having confirmed tickets. In such a case, a full refund will be provided to the passenger.

Railway said that TTE certificate will be issued to the passengers at the entry, checking and screening point mentioning the number of passengers not travelled due to symptoms of Covid-19.

After getting the TTE certificate, online TDR shall be filed for a refund by the passengers within 10 days from the date of journey and the amount will be refunded.

Last month, the Railways refunded around Rs 1,490 crore after 94 lakh tickets, booked before the lockdown was imposed, were cancelled. A further Rs 830 crore was refunded for travel planned between March 22 and April 14, the first phase of the lockdown.

All non-essential trains, including regular passenger services, have been suspended since March 22, three days before the start of the coronavirus lockdown. With the extension of the lockdown to May 17, the Railways had stopped taking bookings for all regular trains.
