22 Pakistan-Backed Terrorists, Including 6 Top Commanders, Eliminated In 2 Weeks
SHOPIAN (UT of Jammu and Kashmir): Nine Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorists, including three commanders of the Hizbul Mujahideen, have been eliminated in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian in less than 24 hours, police said today.
Four terrorists were gunned down in a night-long encounter between security forces and terrorists in Pinjura area of Shopian in South Kashmir.
The joint operation by the Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir police was launched after intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh while speaking to media said that the elimination of terrorists is a big success for the security forces who in continued crackdowns against terrorism have eliminated 22 terrorists including six top commanders in nine big operations during the last two weeks in the Kashmir Valley.
Addressing a press conference here, DGP Singh said: “In last two weeks, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are carrying out an operation against terrorists. In the last two days, nine Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists have been killed. Among them were three top commanders against whom several cases were registered including the killing of innocent civilians, attacks on police and security forces.”
The senior police officer said that 88 terrorists have been killed this year in around 36 operations.
“Four terrorists were killed in a four-hour operation which began at 3 AM today in Shopian. These terrorists were known to cause excesses on civilians, kill non-local labourers, abducting policemen, harassing and causing injuries to truck drivers in 2019,” Major General A Sengupta, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Victor Force, was quoted as saying by news wire agencies.
Two of the four terrorists killed in Monday’s encounter are top Hizbul terrorists, Umer Dhobi and Rayees Khan of Shopian. “Both of them are category-A terrorists.”
Before picking up the gun in August 2018, Umer Dhobi was listed in police records as an overground worker of the Hizbul Mujahideen and a “chronic stone pelter”. He has been named in 10 terror-related cases; many of them relate to carrying out attacks on security personnel.
Rayees Khan was also involved in two attacks on the army camp and a patrol party besides abduction and killing of civilians.
Public Relations Officer Defence Col. Rajesh Kalia said that four dead bodies of terrorists were recovered along with arms & ammunition from the encounter site. The identification of the slain terrorists is being ascertained.
On Sunday, five terrorists were killed after 12-hour long encounter in Reban village of Shopian district, which is around 12km from Monday’s encounter site in Pinjora.
