There are some great TP-Link Kasa and Tapo smart plug deals to be had for Black Friday

When it comes to building a smart home, there's one device that everyone needs - and that's a smart plug. Fortunately, Cyber Monday sales have just the candidate for such an occasion - with deals both on TP-Links Kasa and Tapo smart plugs.

The deal is on the TP-Link Kasa KP105 smart plug. So why should you be looking at the Kasa smart plug? Because it's compatible with Amazon Alexa (also Google Assistant or SmartThings) and it doesn't need a hub to work. It's part of TP-Link's Kasa system, meaning a swift set-up using your smartphone and then you can connect it to your Echo or other device for remote control - so it's hassle free and very versatile.

Alternatively there's a great deal at Amazon on Tapo P100 plugs, where you can get a twin pack for just £15.99, saving 36 per cent off the normal price.

The difference between the Tapo and Kasa plugs is minimal - but Kasa supports IFTTT while Tapo currently does not. The Tapo plugs work with Alexa and Google Assistant, but if you've built a smart home around IFTTT control, you'll want the Kasa plugs above.

Smart plugs are ideal for remote control of heating or air conditioners, lamps or even lights for the Christmas tree.
