Mortal Kombat: Every Fatality In Battle Of The Realms

The animated martial arts movie Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms features many of the intricate and often colorful fatalities that have made Mortal Kombat such a beloved and iconic franchise. From the original 1992 fighting game by Midway and the first Mortal Kombat film from 1995 to the 2021 live-action movie reboot and the new animated Mortal Kombat Legends movies, the franchise has stood the test of time. And much of this can be attributed to Mortal Kombat’s iconic fatalities.
Indeed, creative violence is the bread and butter of the Mortal Kombat franchise. And this tradition continues in Warner Bros.’ new Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms. Led by Emperor Shao Khan, the forces of Outworld seek to invade Earthrealm, only to be stopped by Earth’s greatest defenders, led by Lord Raiden.
In an effort to cease the slaughter of soldiers from both sides as well as to decide the fate of the realms, Shao Khan and Raiden agree to hold one final Mortal Kombat tournament. This puts the war between Earthrealm and Outworld on hold. However, it also sets up some of the best Mortal Kombat fatalities in Battle of the Realms. Here are all the in-tournament fatalities in chronological order.

The first true fatality in the tournament happens to D’Vorah, the Bug Queen. She lunges one of her claws at Sonya, who quickly grabs and severs the appendage. Sonya then uses it to impale D’Vorah on her own claw, followed by a Muay Thai clinch, a knee to the head, and a throw to the ground for good measure.

Using his ungodly sorcery, Shang Tsung takes Curtis Stryker’s essence to replicate his moves and appearance. Shang Tsung then possesses Stryker’s body and slowly walks it backward into a large metal spike. In the first true showcase of brutality within the tournament, Shang Tsung then makes Stryker rip off his own head with his hands. This fatality makes a stern argument for why Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is 2021’s best Mortal Kombat movie.

After fending off Shao Khan’s initial attacks, the Shaolin monk Kung Lao throws his bladed hat at the Emperor. However, Shao Khan manages to grab it and throw it back at Kung Lao, embedding the weapon into his chest. Shao Khan rips it off, puts his hands inside the gaping wound, and rips Kung Lao in half – echoing Kung Lao's own Mortal Kombat fatality.

With his immortality and godhood relinquished in order to be allowed to participate in the tournament, Raiden finally faces off against Shao Khan. The Emperor stuns the former Thunder God, throwing and skewering Raiden with several of his magical spears. Earthrealm’s protector, Mortal Kombat's formidable Lord Raiden, collapses to the ground at the Emperor’s feet. Shao Khan locks Raiden’s arm, steps on his neck, and prods him for last words, to which Raiden says “Your parents loved you, Liu Kang.” And to the horror of Liu Kang and Earthrealm’s remaining warriors, Shao Khan snaps Raiden’s neck.

The brutal death of Raiden at the hands of Shao Khan pushes Liu Kang to lose it and immediately attack the Emperor. Although he is prophesied to win Mortal Kombat, Liu Kang finds himself on the receiving end of too many strikes from Shao Khan. Unfazed, Liu Kang focuses his power and proceeds to return the favor in what is the most epic beat down in the animated 2021 Mortal Kombat movie. Using his classic bicycle kick move and other signature air kicks, Liu Kang launches Shao Khan into the sky. And from high above the tournament coliseum, in full view of the Emperor’s subjects, Liu Kang kicks Shao Khan down back into the ground. This instantly kills the Emperor – the last tournament fatality in Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.
