10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Galar Region | ScreenRant

Pokémon: Sword & Shield came out on November 15, 2019, and they elicited mixed reactions from players. However, out of these divisive games came many strong new Pokémon, some of which received plenty of attention from fans of the Generation VIII titles. While the popularity surrounding these Pocket Monsters is justified, other Galar Pokémon have been left behind by many members of the fanbase.

While some Pokes may not be as powerful as others, they do not deserve to exist in relative obscurity, and their fans agree. Hopefully, they will receive more attention as the Pokémon franchise progresses.

10 Mr. Rime

The evolution to Galarian Mr. Mime, Mr. Rime received some attention upon its release. However, over time, it has become less discussed. This is even though it can do some great damage during battle. Its Special Attack is fairly high, and its defensive stats are usually enough to keep it in the fight for several turns, though the Physical side is less impressive than the Special side.

Mr. Mime itself is a divisive Pokémon, so naturally, its Galarian form's evolution is underappreciated. It deserves a chance to shine though, which its stats show is possible.

9 Eldegoss

Anyone who has played through Sword & Shield has encountered an Eldegoss because it is Milo's ace Pokémon. However, since Milo is one of the easiest Grass-type gym leaders in the main series games, many players dismiss Eldegoss as being weak. If they investigate further though, they will find that it is viable in battle.

With a decent Defense stat and a high Special Defense, Eldegoss can usually take several hits before going down. When it takes these hits, its Ability, Cotton Down, activates. This Ability lowers the Speed stat of all Pokémon on the field except itself. It can also use Synthesis to heal much of the damage it took. Using this strategy can help trainers greatly in a playthrough, and they make Eldegoss more capable than many may expect.

8 Alcremie

Alcremie is best known for its unique evolutionary process and its Gigantamax form, and while it is often considered cute, many players do not give it much attention otherwise. The pure Fairy-type may look harmless, but it can do a fair amount of damage with moves powered by its Special Attack stat.

Defensively, it is vulnerable to Physical attackers, but it excels in Special matchups. The way Milcery evolves into Alcremie may be fascinating, but Alcremie has more to offer than just this evolutionary method.

7 Orbeetle

Orbeetle is an example of a Pokémon that is less popular than one of its pre-evolutions. Dottler, the second-stage evolution of the family, is beloved for its cuteness, and while Orbeetle has one of the best designed Gigantamax forms in Sword & Shield, it is not given the attention it deserves.

Not only is its concept interesting, but Orbeetle also has some reasonable stats. Both its Defense and Special Defense are quite high, and while its Special Attack is not fantastic, it is decent. Some fans appreciate this Pokémon, but when it comes to the general player base, Orbeetle tends to stay out of conversations.

6 Eiscue

Most Sword & Shield players are likely to know Eiscue because of its gimmick, but many may not know how capable this gimmick makes it. Eiscue starts the battle in its Ice Face form, which shields it from Physical damage. When a Physical attack hits it, Eiscue changes to its Noice Face form, which lowers its defensive stats but raises its Speed.

In either form, Eiscue's Attack is only decent, but its Ability gives it more opportunities to survive a hit. Players who play competitively are likely aware of Eiscue's viability in that scene, but the majority of the fanbase does not seem to recognize Eiscue's usefulness in a playthrough.

5 Inteleon

Out of all the Galar starters, Inteleon has received the most criticism. Many believe that its appearance is too human-like, but this is not reason enough to completely dismiss it. While it is not the best, it is certainly one of the stronger pure Water-types in the franchise. Its Speed stat lets it move before a large portion of enemies, and its Special Attack is high enough to take many of them down before they can retaliate.

Its defensive stats are lacking, but Inteleon focuses on rapid and effective attacks. Its design may appear uninspired, but that does not make Inteleon any less viable in the main series games.

4 Dubwool

As the fully evolved form of Wooloo, which is with Hop from the beginning, players often consider Dubwool to be a weak Pokémon because it is rarely difficult to beat in the main story of Sword & Shield. Its stats are better than many realize, though. Its HP is not great, but its defensive stats are both passable, providing Dubwool with a good amount of bulk. It often cannot take enemies out in one hit, but its Attack stat is high enough to take care of them over time.

Also, if it has Fluffy as its Ability, Dubwool takes half damage from contact moves, though it takes double damage from Fire moves. Dubwool may be the fully evolved form of an early-game encounter, but it can be useful throughout a large part of a playthrough.

3 Sandaconda

Even with its Gigantamax form, Sandaconda has not been able to garner the popularity that many other Galar Pokémon have. Some players find its design boring and believe it is not strong enough to compete in a playthrough, but it is actually quite viable. While its Special Defense is nothing special, its Defense is great.

When Sandaconda has the opportunity to strike, it can do so with a reasonable amount of force using its above-average Attack stat. Furthermore, if it has Shed Skin as its Ability, it has a chance to cure a status condition it receives, which can be very helpful in a playthrough. It is not the strongest Pokémon in the game, but it is reliable if players need a Ground-type.

2 Dracozolt

When it comes to the Generation VIII fossil Pokémon, Dracovish has the best reputation. It is one of the strongest Pokémon from Sword & Shield in general, leaving the others in the background. Dracozolt especially deserves more recognition than it receives.

Its Speed matches that of Dracovish, and its attack Bolt Beak does a tremendous amount of damage if Dracozolt moves before its foe. Its dual-typing of Electric/Dragon is part of what makes it generally less viable than Dracovish, but it is still more than capable in battle.

1 Pincurchin

Pincurchin is not exceptional in a playthrough, but many people tend to brush it to the side entirely. It has its usefulness though, if players are willing to always let it strike last. Its Speed is almost nonexistent, and though its HP is low, its defensive stats partially make up for it.

When it does attack, Pincurchin can deal a good amount of damage using either its Physical or Special Attack, because both are reasonably high. It will not carry many players to the end of the game, but it is not as useless as some may believe.
