God of War PC Mods We Want To See | Screen Rant
Now that God of War will be making its way to PC on Jan. 14, 2022, there is an endless possibility of mods that could be implemented in the game. Sony has announced that the PC version of God of War (2018) will be available for purchase in the Epic Games Store and Steam. It wasn't long afterward that fans were already thinking of ways Kratos and Atreus could be altered through mods.
Adding mods to any action-adventure has become a rite of passage for many games over the past few years. Fans have modded many titles over the past decade, with some of the more notable games being Skyrim and Fallout 4. With God of War soon to join the ranks of PC games, fans are hopeful that they'll receive some great mods along with it.
If there is anything that mods excel at, it's reimaging fan-favorite games in a way that adds new levels of enjoyment during a replay. God of War on PC through Steam and Epic Games has high expectations to meet in the realm of mods, but luckily there are a number of genres that can provide some exciting changes. It's safe to assume that any mods that come to God of War will likely have that same inspiration from other genres, and there are plenty of options fans hope to see.
Star Wars has always been one of the most iconic series to inspire mods, and sometimes Star Wars mods are even created for, and applied to, other Star Wars games. Now that God of War (2018) will be available on PC, Star Wars mods are bound to come sooner or later. With the ever-growing fandom of Star Wars and its newer releases, like The Mandalorian, it's impossible not to expect modders to implement appropriate cosmetics.
These are some potential Star Wars mod ideas that many people would probably love to see in the PC release of God of War (2018):
- Yoda & Baby Yoda: This idea comes from some of the ridiculous God of War PC mods imagined by fans already and would be a lot of fun to see Kratos and Atreus in these roles.
- Starkiller & Cal Kestis: Kratos and Atreus already have similar structures to the protagonists of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, so this idea fits perfectly within their character design.
- The Death Star: Similar fashion to a Skyrim mod, God of War fans would love to see the iconic Death Star or Death Star 2 looming over the nine realms.
- Jedi Robes & Lightsabers: Kratos and Atreus would look amazing in some Republic-era robes, fighting the enemies of the nine realms with some lightsabers.
- Battle Droids, Storm Troopers, & Other Enemies: The lack of enemy variety in God of War goes a long way toward making this happen, as the enemies could dawn Storm Trooper or Battle Droid skins, and the trolls could be made to look like Fallen Order's Jotaz.
- Reskinning Locations: Reskinning some of the locations in God of War to look like Hoth or Endor would be a phenomenal way to experience the game once more.
The Super Mario Bros. games continue to be recognized as one of the best third-person action-adventure platformers of all time. More than anything, adding some Super Mario Bros. skins to God of War (2018) would provide some comical relief. While there isn't as wide of a pool of mods to choose from here, there are still some great changes that could be made.
These are some potential Super Mario Bros. mod ideas that many people would probably love to see in the PC release of God of War (2018):
- Mario & Baby Mario or Luigi & Baby Luigi Skins: A Kratos and Atreus reskin to Mario and Baby Mario, or the Luigis, is definitely at the top of a must-have mod list.
- Koopa Troopa & Dry Bones: While the Goombas may be a bit too short to cast as the enemies in God of War, Koopa Troopers and Dry Bones seem perfect for a reskin here.
- Bowser: Mario's arch-nemesis, Bowser, needs no introduction and would be great to see as a reskin of the Trolls.
- Mushroom Kingdom: Some color configurations of the Mushroom Kingdom onto the nine realms would certainly add a cartoonish glow to the already breathtaking landscape.
Mortal Kombat and God of War share one theme in particular, and that is their violent methods of defeating opponents. Practically every god Kratos meets in God of War (2018) is ended by a finishing move, as well as the common enemies, so it seems like reskinning Kratos, Atreus, and their enemies to the characters of the Mortal Kombat series would be a great fit. Additionally, some reskinned weapons would be perfect for the PC version of God of War (2018).
These are some potential Mortal Kombat mod ideas that many people would probably love to see in the PC release of God of War (2018):
- Scorpion: Kratos and Scorpion have similar character arcs, overcoming their need for vengeance and bloodshed to train a new generation. This is the perfect skin for Kratos.
- Sub-Zero: While Sub-Zero could be another great Kratos remake, Kuai Liang's iconic appearance may be better suited for Atreus.
- All Mortal Kombat Characters: From the classic ninja skins of the first Mortal Kombat to the characters included in Mortal Kombat 11, and everything in between, God of War (2018) has so many options to use to reskin every character in the game on PC.
- Mortal Kombat Weapons: The God of War (2018) weapons could be remade as well with weapons from Mortal Kombat. Particularly God of War's Blades of Chaos as Scorpion's kunai spear or the Leviathan Axe as Nightwolf's Tomahawk would be nice additions to see as PC mods.
Sometimes the best part about modding a game isn't about changing the scenery entirely, but rather altering a few things to enhance what's already there. As the God of War series continues to pull from ancient mythologies known throughout the world, the inspiration for PC mods can pull from the series. Additionally, there are a few crossovers that would be shameful to see go to waste.
These are some potential Greek and Norse mythology mod ideas that many people would probably love to see in the PC release of God of War (2018):
- Loki Outfit: Now that people know Atreus is Loki in God of War's universe, it would be great to see a mod that allows Atreus to wear some Loki-inspired outfits.
- Thor: God of War's Thor and Kratos have similar features already, making a Thor skin easier to implement than others.
- Stormbreaker: While Stormbreaker doesn't have its roots in Norse mythology, the Leviathan Axe would look fantastic reskinned as Thor's weapon from Avengers: Endgame.
- Atreus as Kratos: Kratos' bearded face on Atreus would be hilarious to see as players complete God of War (2018) with a "Mini-Me" companion.
- Gods of War: Whether it's old-school Kratos or Ares reskinned as another God of War, this is the perfect fit for another playthrough of God of War (2018).
