Book of Boba Fett Trailer Shows Boba Reclaiming His Iconic Ship

A new trailer for Disney+'s upcoming series The Book of Boba Fett shows Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) reclaiming his iconic starship. The Book of Boba Fett is the first of several shows that will spin off from The Mandalorian, all of which are planned to culminate in what has been described as a climactic story event. Synopses for the show reveal that Fett is looking to reclaim territory previously ruled over by Jabba the Hutt, who died several years prior at the hands of Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) in 1983's Return of the Jedi. Although The Book of Boba Fett is technically considered a spinoff from The Mandalorian, it will expand upon story threads nearly four decades in the making.
When Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) runs into Boba Fett for the first time in The Mandalorian season 2, the iconic bounty hunter has already acquired his iconic starship (previously known as Slave I but now called Firespray). However, the lack of context between Fett's defeat in the Star Wars movies and his return in The Mandalorian left fans speculating over how he escaped from the Sarlacc Pit's maw, as well as how he recovered his ship. It seems that The Book of Boba Fett will fill some of these gaps in the lore.
A new trailer from Disney+ shows Fett and his partner, Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) seemingly recovering his derelict starship from a darkened hanger. Although The Book of Boba Fett has been described as season 2.5 of The Mandalorian, it seems that the spinoff will include flashbacks from further back in the show's chronology as evidenced by Fett's lack of armor. Boba Fett's post-Return of the Jedi fate in canon was a mystery for years until his appearance in The Mandalorian. The 2015 novel Star Wars: Aftermath was the first to tease the bounty hunter's survival, hinting that a lawman on Tatooine had acquired his iconic Beskar armor – a story thread that The Mandalorian seamlessly followed up on years later by introducing the lawman, Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), to live-action. With Fett returning to Tatooine in his own series, it's possible that he may run into the brief custodian of his armor.
In any case, the series presents an exciting opportunity for Star Wars to flesh out the iconic bounty hunter's lore. Despite being a fan-favorite, Fett's live-action appearances have been surprisingly insubstantial. The animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars gave a comprehensive picture of Fett's early years; hopefully, The Book of Boba Fett will be able to do the same for this older and wiser incarnation of the character.
