Ghostface Eyes Their Next Victim In New Scream 2022 Photos

Ghostface, the masked killer from Scream, is getting a close-up on the cover of the next issue of Total FilmScream 2022, which is the fifth film in the franchise which began with the Wes Craven original from 1996, is coming to theaters on January 14, 2022. It's being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo behind Ready or Not, with a script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. The cast includes Dylan Minnette, Kyle Gallner, Jack Quaid, Mason Gooding, Melissa Barrera, Marley Shelton, Jenna Ortega, Mikey Madison, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar, with original cast members Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox also returning.

Although each Scream film is a whodunit, with different killers revealed at the end, they all take on the mantle of Ghostface. The killer's iconic look involves a hooded robe and a mask loosely inspired by Edvard Munch's painting The Scream. The killer's M.O. typically involves calling their victims using a voice-altering device that gives them the menacing tones of veteran voice actor Roger L. Jackson, who has provided the voice for all 4 films and Scream: The TV Series, which ran for 3 seasons.

Scream will be the cover story of the next issue of Total Film. The issue will include interviews with Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, and Kevin Williamson, so it's only natural that Ghostface is gracing the cover. The magazine has shared two new cover photos showing the killer in two different poses menacing a potential victim. Check out both full-size images below:

The new film will feature a brand new copycat killer chasing after people related to the original killers (this may even include Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott, who was revealed to be related to the killer in Scream 3). When Ghostface threatens to reveal a deadly secret, potential new final girl Sam Carpenter, played by Melissa Barrera, seeks out David Arquette's former Sheriff Dewey Riley for help. This is what brings him, Sidney, and Courteney Cox's Gale Weathers (who may or may not still be married to Dewey) back into the orbit of yet another chain of killings.

The identity of the killer is obviously tightly under wraps, but the Scream 2022 trailer has also avoided detailing the identity of the victims either. Although there are certain characters who are more clearly menaced by the killer than others, there is still a mystery as to who dies and - more importantly - how they die. The magazine cover certainly can't tease any specific victims, but that doesn't make Ghostface's looming presence any less terrifying.
