Parks & Rec Main Characters Ranked Least To Most Likely To Win The Squid Game

It’s easy to see why Squid Game has become one of the most popular shows on television right now. It’s the perfect combination of thriller and social commentary, and it shows just how desperate people can become in order to avoid financial destitution. It is, therefore, fascinating to compare this show with other, very different TV offerings, including series like Parks and Recreation, arguably one of the most optimistic series to have ever aired.

The characters of Parks and Rec, though good people, reveal some surprising traits when considering which of them would win if competing in Squid Game.

10 Andy Dwyer

Andy would definitely be one of those people that would jump into the Squid Game thinking that it would be enjoyable, only to realize that he is way in over his head.

There’s a childlike innocence to him that would make him very susceptible to the schemings and violence of others. He’s the type of person that would probably do well with the games portion, but he would be easily killed by someone far more unscrupulous than he is.

9 Jerry Gergich

It’s hard to think of a person more inept than Jerry, who never seems to be able to get a break in the office. In fact, he becomes the butt of almost every joke.

He would almost certainly misunderstand the essential rules of the Squid Game, and he would either lose or be eliminated by someone else who wanted to get him out of the way. His only skill is in somehow being able to endure when others fall by the wayside, which earns him a place just above Andy.

8 Ann Perkins

Ann Perkins is one of those characters that it’s impossible not to like. She’s a genuinely good and nice person, and she wants to help everyone in whatever way she can. In fact, there doesn’t seem to be a mean or cruel bone in her body.

While this makes her a great citizen of Pawnee, it’s exactly the wrong kind of trait that she would need if she wanted to survive the Squid Game, let alone win it. She would be eliminated fairly early by someone who would see her kindness as weakness.

7 Chris Trager

Chris, like Ann, is a good person, and he is one of those people who uses his perennial optimism as a kind of shield, making him both heartwarming and annoying. At the same time, he does have some traits that would probably serve him well in the event that he got involved in the Squid Game.

As he shows when he discovers Ben and Leslie’s relationship, he can be ruthless when it comes to the enforcement of rules, meaning that he would both understand the game and be willing to do what it takes to win. Plus, he's in remarkable shape so any games that would take physical activity would be a strength for him.

6 Tom Haverford

Tom is arguably the most ambitious person in the show, and he is constantly trying to find ways to make more money and become more famous. This would make him the ideal contestant for Squid Game, which constantly pits people like that against one another.

While he would probably struggle a bit at the beginning--he tends to get in his own way sometimes--by the end he would show, as he does in the series, that he has what it takes to come out on top. He might not physically be capable but he's as cunning as they come.

5 Leslie Knope

At first glance, it might seem that Leslie is too nice to win a brutal and violent event like Squid Game. However, if there’s one thing that Leslie is known for other than her kindness, it’s her skill at getting things done.

This, combined with her ambition to be the best at what she does means that she would be the type of person that others might underestimate for Squid Game. That and her knowledge of how the system works, end up posisbly making her the eventual victor.

4 Ben Wyatt

If there’s one trait that defines Ben, one of the best characters introduced after season 1, it’s his nerdiness, and he has a particular penchant for games (he even invents one himself). He has a keen eye for strategy and, as he shows when he first arrives in Pawnee, he has a bit of a ruthless streak when it comes to efficiency.

In other words, he’s just the type of person who would quickly grasp the contours of the Squid Game, plan out what it takes to win, and do that. On the downside, he does tend to overcomplicate things, which could be a liability.

3 Ron Swanson

Even though he has a soft side that he doesn’t often want others to see, Ron Swanson also has a rational mind, and he has a knack for cutting straight to the point and addressing any kind of question head-on (all while delivering some great quotes).

If he found himself in the Squid Game, he might not excel at creating any kind of alliances (he’s notoriously self-contained), but his other compensating qualities, including his handyman skills, would give him the edge on most of his competitors.

2 Donna Meagle

When the series begins, Donna is a bit of a side character, but as it goes on she reveals more and more of her personality. It soon becomes clear that she has a no-nonsense way of looking at the world. Though she likes her co-workers, Donna has an eye for what it takes to succeed, and she takes it.

There’s no doubt that she would seize every opportunity that presented itself at the Squid Game and that she wouldn’t even let friendship get in the way.

1 April Ludgate

April is, by far, the most sinister of the characters of Parks and Recreation, and she seems to be in a different world altogether. However, she also shows that she has a pragmatic streak and that she is far more competent than she likes others to appear.

It’s this combination of competence and cunning that would make her, by far, the most likely of any of the characters of this series to win the Squid Game. Nothing, not even her friendships or relationships, would keep April from seizing the victory she sees as hers.
