10 Superhero Movies To Look Forward To In 2022 | Screen Rant
There is so much to look forward to for fans of superhero movies next year, and while there were nine total MCU releases in 2021, 2022 is the year of DC. Even outside of the DC Extended Universe movie, there is The Batman and even DC League of Super-Pets to look forward to.
However, there are many upcoming MCU releases too, and even a couple of original superhero flicks that could be the start of some special franchises. Between another Thor-driven space odyssey, a highly anticipated animated sequel, and yet another movie that delves into a multiverse, 2022 will be full of tentpole comic book films.

Sylvester Stallone has featured in several superhero movies lately, as he had a small role in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, played King Shark in The Suicide Squad, and he'll return in the third Guardians movie. However, next year will see the actor lead his very own superhero flick, Samaritan.
The movie is about a retired superhero who disappeared from the public eye 20 years ago, and it promises to be a dark and fresh take on the genre. The movie isn't a part of any cinematic universe, but it could very well be the start of a new one. 2022 is shaping up to be a huge year for the action hero, as Stallone will star in The Expendables 4 too.

It isn't completely clear what Sony's plans are with Sony's Spider-Man Universe, as the studio seems to be making so many tonally different movies and tying them together. It wouldn't be surprising if the studio announced tomorrow that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is in development. But Morbius is the most intriguing when it comes to the SSU's future.
In the trailer, there's graffiti of Spider-Man all over the place, the Vulture from the MCU appears, and the director announced that Venom will have a small role too. Even the character of Morbius himself, a scientist who turns himself into a vampire, is so fascinating, and it'll be a win for Sony if the studio manages to pull it all off.

Secret Headquarters is a standalone movie, isn't a part of a cinematic universe, and is a completely original idea, as it isn't an adaptation or based on any source material. And that's what makes the movie so exciting and one to watch, because it's so fresh and new.
Not much has been revealed about the movie yet, but the basic plot of the film is that a child finds a secret superhero headquarters in his father's basement. That leads him and his friends to suspect that his dad is, in fact, a superhero. It could turn out to be a great family movie, and despite its original premise, it still features several MCU alums, including Owen Wilson and Michael Pena.

After the first two grey and murky Thor movies, which are generally considered the worst of the MCU, writer-director Taita Waititi breathed new life into the series. Instead of a dull color palette, Thor: Ragnarok was as vibrant and technicolor as The Wizard of Oz, and instead of haphazardly bouncing between Earth and Asgard, Ragnarok is an epic space opera.
It sounds as though Waititi will continue that outside-the-box thinking with Love and Thunder. Many actors are confirmed to return for Love and Thunder, and it also introduces some fascinating new characters. Christian Bale has switched teams from DC and will be playing the primary antagonist, Gorr The God Butcher, in this 2022 MCU movie.

Black Adam is going to be an important movie in the DC Extended Universe, as it'll introduce the titular anti-hero into the universe, and he just happens to be Shazam's nemesis. Whether it's in Black Adam, the upcoming Shazam sequel, or another movie down the line, the two characters will eventually face off, and ironically, it'll most likely be much better than Batman v. Superman.
Fascinatingly enough, Black Adam is one of two 2022 superhero movies Dwayne Johnson is starring in, and even more interestingly, they are both DC movies too. However, the second movie is completely animated and not a part of the DCEU, as he'll be playing Krypto the Superdog in DC League of Super-Pets.

As great as Black Panther is, the sequel could be in trouble. The film is going through a shaky development with the unfortunate passing of Chadwick Boseman, rumors of Letitia Wright exiting production, and debates over whether King T'Challa should be recast.
However, Marvel Studios has handled troubled productions in the past, and filmmaker Ryan Coogler is still at the helm. Given that the director knows the world of the character so well and is spearheading a Wakanda Disney+ series, the film could be as big as the original 2018 movie.

It might be hard to believe, as the character has cropped up in several DCEU movies over the past few years, but it will have been a full decade since the last Batman solo movie when The Batman comes out. Not only that, but it's the first time that a movie will truly depict the character doing detective work and earning his moniker of the World's Greatest Detective.
Even with two full trailers out, the plot of The Batman is still just as mysterious as the Riddler's riddles, and the trailers revealing nothing is what makes the movie even more exciting. Along with totally different portrayals of the villains that audiences have never been seen before, Robert Pattinson's portrayal of Bruce Wayne could be the best yet.

With the trailer for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness coming at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, excitement couldn't be anymore through the roof for the Doctor Strange sequel.
There's still so much fans don't know about the new movie, but between Mordo's return, Wong leveling up, and Strange having a doppelganger, so much is revealed in the Multiverse of Madness trailer. What also has fans excited is the fact that it continues the success that the MCU has had with team-up movies. The sequel will see Wanda working alongside Strange too.

As if audiences haven't gotten enough Spider-Man in 2021. No Way Home is such a huge movie and, even in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, it managed to have the second highest-grossing opening weekend of all time. But that still isn't enough Spider-Man for most fans.
Following Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, possibly the best superhero movie, the sequel will arrive in 2022. As envelope-pushing as the first movie's animation was, animation in Across The Spider-Verse looks even more mind-bending. And what's even more exciting is that the "Part One" in the title hints that a second sequel will arrive sooner rather than later.

If fans loved universes colliding in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the DC Extended Universe will give it a go next year too. Though it'll be hard to top all of the fan service, crossovers, and surprises of the MCU movie, The Flash could come close.
The teaser trailer has already revealed that not only will there be three different versions of the Flash, but Michael Keaton's Batman will return too. Though that might be the biggest surprise of the movie, there'll surely be more secrets that will have audiences gasping, laughing, and applauding.
