Denzel Washington Has Hilarious Response To Will Smith Comparisons

Denzel Washington has a hilarious response to the recent talk online comparing him to Will Smith. Washington, who began his monumental career in 1975 as a stage actor, is now one of the most well-known actors ever. He expanded his career from the stage to the screen, winning multiple awards, including the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Recently, Washington has stretched his talents to take a more behind-the-scenes role in his movies as a producer and director. His newest drama, A Journal for Jordan, made a respectable $2.2 million in the box office for its Christmas weekend opening while competing against faster-paced movies like The Matrix Resurrections.

With Washington's accomplished career, it's almost inevitable for comparisons to other well-known actors to come about. In November, a debate broke out on Twitter asking people which actor they would pick between Washington and Will Smith. Comparing the two in and of itself is a bit silly, since Smith and Washington's careers have developed in wildly different ways and at different paces, but nevertheless, thousands of people online gave their opinions. Overwhelmingly, most responses gave the fight to Washington.

While answering questions for Two Bees TV  on YouTube, at A Journal for Jordan's NYC premiere, the debate finally reached Washington's ears. The legendary actor may have given the last word on the Denzel versus Will debate with his joking response. When asked what his thoughts were on the online debate, Washington responded: "He has a whole lot more money than me."

Many fans commented on Washington's hilarious response, praising him for his good humor. While some criticized asking Washington about the debate in the first place, calling the question disrespectful to his career, they still praised Washington for his patience in answering. Despite Washington's casual response to the comparison, many other fans made it clear that there was no comparison between him and Will Smith. They acknowledged Smith's accomplishments but stated that Washington was on another level.

Obviously, neither money nor awards could account for the incredible impact both actors have left on American cinema. Smith has established a name for himself in his own right, and similar to Washington's, Smith's career expands far past simply acting. Both Smith and Washington opened opportunities for young Black actors that didn't exist when their careers were starting, and those careers are far from over. Washington acts as director and producer for his latest film, A Journal for Jordan, while Smith produced and starred in his latest, King Richard. There is no doubt that the two will be remembered for their work long after Twitter's finished debating.
