Valkyrie's New, Comic-Accurate Powers In Thor: Love & Thunder Revealed

Actress Tessa Thompson reveals her new, comics-accurate powers for Valkyrie in Thor: Love and Thunder. Thompson first played Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, later appearing in Avengers: Endgame, in which Thor bestows the responsibility of leading New Asgard on Earth to her. The actress is slated to return as Valkyrie in Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi, and once again starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, with Natalie Portman returning to the franchise and taking up the mantle of The Mighty Thor. Christian Bale also joins the MCU, playing the lead villain, Gorr The God Butcher.
Valkyrie is one of many of her kind, an angel-like being in Norse mythology that chooses who lives and who dies on the battlefield, taking them to Valhalla or Fólkvangr if they choose death. Thus far in the films, Valkyrie has been shown atop her Pegasus utilizing superhuman strength and formidable combat skills, but little has been revealed of her actual comics-accurate powers in the MCU. However, it appears that's about to change in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Talking to W Magazine, Thompson was asked about Valkyrie's skills in the Thor films, which she describes as "weird" as well as "quite erotic." While the actress doesn't explicitly say that these abilities will be shown in Thor: Love and Thunder, she does give specific clues which suggest the possibility of seeing Valkyrie go beyond superhuman strength and combat. Thompson mentions Valkyrie's comic-accurate powers of death perception, which allows her to see when someone is close to death, which produces a "death glow" in the comics. She also mentions taking people to Valhalla, which is another signature mythological power of the Valkyrie. Here's her full quote:
She has weird skills, to be honest. She can sense when someone is close to death, and she takes them into Valhalla, which is essentially the afterlife. She can revive people. But when she revives people, sometimes she ends up in their body. It's a weird thing. It can be quite erotic. And then she has superhuman strength and is essentially God.

Thompson's star power has been rising in Hollywood for many years now, starting off early in TV shows like Veronica Mars, 666 Park Avenue, Copper, and Heroes, but she made a huge impression with her role as Bianca in the Creed franchise. That role led to Thor: Ragnarok, which welcomed the actress into the MCU as a recurring character. Thompson also played a major role in HBO's Westworld and is currently filming for Michael B. Jordan's Creed III.
Seeing Valkyrie utilize the full range of her powers in Thor: Love and Thunder would be a welcome addition to Thompson's version of the character. While it's cool to see Valkyrie in action, there's much more to her powers than has been revealed thus far, making her a more complex and interesting character than just a badass goddess on a horse with a sword. The "crazy wild" Thor: Love and Thunder is setting itself up for some big expectations, from new costumes to new characters, and having Valkyrie evolve alongside both Hemsworth and Portman's Thors should make for a great ride.
