Black Krrsantan's Finally Getting His Own Star Wars Spotlight

The Wookiee bounty hunter Black Krrsantan is getting his own Star Wars comic in an upcoming compilation of his past adventures. The fan favorite member of the Star Wars Underworld has frequently appeared in other characters’ titles, but now the spotlight is coming to him.

Following his live action debut on Disney+’s The Book of Boba Fett, Black Krrsantan has surged in popularity. Recently, he appeared on a variant cover for Star Wars: Crimson Reign #3 and he is set to show up in Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca #4, in which the two Wookiees will fight for the smuggler’s life. In the process, the issue will determine whether Chewbacca or Krrsantan is the stronger Wookiee. Before Krrsantan shows up in the prequel miniseries, readers will have the opportunity to be reminded of his journey in Star Wars comics with a special one-shot.

As revealed by StarWars.com, Black Krrsantan will receive his own special self-titled comic, Krrsantan: Star Wars Tales #1. The issue will collect many of his best stories, including Star Wars (2015) #14, #15, #20, along with Doctor Aphra Annual #1. Each comic serves as an event in his characterization through the years, with his appearance in Doctor Aphra as the time in which he fought Obi-Wan Kenobi, and his initial fight with his Wookiee counterpart, Chewbacca. The collection also provides some insight into his backstory, when he was a Trandoshan gladiator who was seeking vengeance. The supersized comic will feature a cover illustrated by Salvador Larocca, as unveiled in the announcement. Krrsantan is set to release on May the 4th, also known as Star Wars Day.

As seen on Larocca’s cover, the Wookiee is running angrily at an unknown blaster. Wearing his signature gold armor and holding his crossbow, Krrsantan has largely remained the same throughout his comic book and live action iterations, despite the long span of time from before A New Hope and after Return of the Jedi. With the spotlight one-shot releasing on Star Wars Day, it might be worth speculating that Krrsantan shows up in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, which begins in May. At this point, comics are primarily focusing on his past adventures, set long before his live action debut. Initially appearing in comics, Krrsantan has come a long way, and would probably benefit for additional one-shot compilations of past storylines in which he appeared.

Although he might appear to be one of the most intimidating bounty hunters in the galaxy at this point in time, Krrsantan had taken many hits in The Book of Boba Fett. He doesn't seem to only be getting weak with old age, as Krrsantan was once beaten by C-3PO unintentionally in Darth Vader #15 (2015). When attempting to rip the droid's limbs off, 3P0's defense mechanism strikes back, electrocuting the hulking Wookiee. However, the upcoming one-shot collection will primarily be highlighting stories in which the Wookiee proves his strength. Krrsantan: Star Wars Tales #1 releases on May 4.
