Dota 2: Best Core/Support Item Build For Omniknight | Screen Rant

Omniknight in Dota 2 recently got a significant rework, and that combined with other changes from patch 7.31 has considerably changed his item build. Core Omniknights are no longer pidgeon-holed into building a Radiance and both roles have new items to utilize. Omniknight in general also has a stronger laning phase now and can abuse that with the right items.
7.31 brought some welcome changes to the hero. The biggest change by far was the removal of Degen Aura; this ability is now his Aghanim's Shard and thus can be purchased by the cores that want it while letting supports utilize the new skill. The new skill in question is a reworked version of Omniknight's old Shard, Hammer of Purity; this ability is an efficient source of damage in the early game and an effective slow later on.
Additionally, Omniknight's Heavenly Grace got a partial rework, and this has changed the hero's playstyle in Dota 2 somewhat. Because Heavenly Grace is now a strong counter to debuff spam due to the stacking effects of it and the fact that it now applies to Omniknight himself when cast on an ally, Omniknight likes to play like a sidekick: he wants to charge into battle with a friend and is fairly weak when alone. Omniknight can still sit at a distance and cast spells but the lack of status resistance on Heavenly Grace, the low cast range of Hammer of Purity, and the new Dota 2 skill build's dependence on levels makes that difficult, so he typically wants to be more involved.

Note that like all things Dota 2, updates, meta developments, and situations can call for a unique item build.
Support Omniknight's item build focuses heavily on his supportive capabilities through buffs. An early Soul Ring gives Omniknight the mana he needs to use his spells as much as he needs to throughout the game, especially when assisted by other mana regen later on. Tranquil Boots offset the health cost of Soul Ring while also letting Omniknight roam more effectively. Medallion of Courage is a cheap item that increases or decreases armor and provides solid stats while also building into Solar Crest.
Drum of Endurance gives Omniknight a much-needed teamfight presence through the active ability and will be upgraded later. Solar Crest is one of the best Dota 2 support items, primarily for the buff that it provides to the team's carry; if this is used on the carry every fight, they'll be significantly stronger and harder to take down. Aether Lens lets Omniknight do everything he needs to from a longer range which is important for a support character.
Aghanim's Scepter augments Guardian Angel with increased status resistance and a global cast range; this means that Omniknight doesn't have to wade into the fray to use it effectively and also makes it harder for enemies to kite the ability. Boots of Bearing take this a step further by also greatly speeding up the team, and it helps that they're a natural upgrade from Dota 2's Tranquil Boots and Drum of Endurance. Lotus Orb gives Omniknight a secondary dispel and the extra buff is greatly appreciated by the team's cores. Refresher Orb lets Omniknight do everything twice, and in the case of Guardian Angel if enemies don't have dispels to counter its effects the team becomes unstoppable.
Orb of Venom is a solid item for laning if aggression is viable but if Omniknight's goal is to be more defensive it'll be a waste of gold and doesn't scale into the lategame regardless. Blink Dagger lets Omniknight stay even further away from fights until his abilities are needed but provides little other benefits if he can survive on the outskirts already. Aeon Disk is perfect if enemies are attempting to pick Omniknight off at the start of fights, but the cooldown is significant and it gets countered by dispels like the rest of Omniknight's kit, making him even more vulnerable to Dota 2's dispel items like Nullifier. Shiva's Guard and other aura items such as Wraith Pact are great to have, but support Omniknight might not be tanky enough to keep their effects up. Scythe of Vyse is a strong disable for a hero that lacks one but it's incredibly expensive, especially for a support and a hero that doesn't naturally farm very quickly.

Core Omniknight's item build is all about being able to disrupt teamfights while staying glued to an important target and just generally being on the frontline. He can deal acceptable amounts of damage with the right skill build like Dota 2's Techies but primarily wants to force enemies to focus him or flee through debuffs. Soul Ring gives Omniknight the mana he needs to spam his spells in the early game for farming and laning, and the stats are always appreciated on Strength heroes. Phase Boots give Omniknight some much-needed armor and help him chase down targets. Sange will later build into Heaven's Halberd and its stats make Omniknight significantly tankier for a cheap price.
Orchid Malevolence gives core Omniknight everything he needs offensively: damage, attack speed, mana regen, and a way to stop enemies from casting dangerous spells or mobility spells. Heaven's Halberd is the defensive equivalent of the Orchid Malevolence in that it gives evasion and strength, and it'll be used to stop enemies from using basic attacks. The combo of these two items will render anyone without a dispel helpless, making most of Dota 2's enemies much easier to kill and giving Omniknight all of the stats he wants to survive. Omniknight's Aghanim's Shard upgrade lets him stick to targets like glue due to the massive 40% slow, and for the low cost of 1400 gold, it's hard to say no to it.
Since Omniknight's stats are already covered at this point, extra utility is preferred from the extension items. In this case, aura items; Wraith Pact, Shiva's Guard, and Assault Cuirass are all strong auras that Omniknight is survivable enough to hold, and their benefits make Omniknight even tankier and thus harder to get rid of. Wraith Pact reduces the damage of nearby enemies, Shiva's Guard reduces health regen and also movement speed with the active, and Assault Cuirass increases ally armor and attack speed and reduces enemy armor.
Armlet is a cheap, efficient damage-increasing item, but provides little utility outside of the damage; get it if that damage is important. Sange and Kaya is an alternative to Heaven's Halberd that trades the disarm and evasion for stronger spells; this trade usually isn't worth it but can be nice if other heroes need Purification to survive. Aghanim's Scepter makes Guardian Angel global and adds status resistance to it, but the spell has a long cooldown; if enemies aren't building dispels to counter Omniknight's spells and the status resistance is useful, this item is a powerful choice. Radiance is great for dealing damage in Dota 2's fights and farming, but shouldn't be gotten if other cores are also farm-heavy. Guardian Greaves is the perfect boot choice for Omniknight but requires him to skip Phase Boots and costs a lot of gold. Eye of Skadi gives Omniknight extra tankiness while also providing a secondary slow and health regen reduction; if Shiva's Guard alone isn't enough, this item can be combined with it to nearly stop movement and health regen.
Dota 2 is available on Steam.
