Elden Ring Fan Dies To A Beetle During Intense Dragon Battle

One unlucky Elden Ring player recently met their end by the most unlikely of foes: a lowly beetle. FromSoftware's latest dark fantasy RPG launched to rave reviews a few weeks ago, earning praise for its challenging gameplay, detailed game world, and rich lore courtesy of legendary Game Of Thrones author George R.R. Martin. As a Tarnished Exile, Elden Ring players are tasked with traveling the world in search of the scattered fragments of the titular Elden Ring, all while trying to survive the many dangerous enemies and monsters that come their way.

In true Dark Souls fashion, Elden Ring is filled to the brim with powerful monsters and foes that can slay a Tarnished at every turn - to the point where even the game’s developers at FromSoftware have apologized to anyone struggling with Elden Ring’s difficulty. From hulking dragons to vicious dog-like beasts that devour anyone foolish enough to try to pet them, Elden Ring players have been sharing videos of their characters being felled in battle in the most outlandish of ways. While some Tarnished are successful in taking down Elden Ring's bosses in true cinematic fashion, others are caught off guard by even the smallest and seemingly insignificant of creatures while trying to vanquish a larger foe.

Such was the case with Reddit user GoatsAndGlory, who recently shared a video clip of a fateful encounter they had with a dragon to the Elden Ring subreddit. GoatsAndGlory starts out well enough, dodging the airborne dragon’s fiery breath on horseback and wearing the beast’s health bar down to the halfway point. However, they are soon struck down not by the dragon's blue flame, but by a dung beetle that suddenly falls on top of them, knocking them off their horse and triggering Elden Ring’s red “You Died” text. Other Elden Ring players have shared their own bizarre deaths in the comment section, with many bringing up a similar incident where an Elden Ring player was killed by a goat of all things mere seconds after taking down a gigantic stone giant.

Elden Ring’s punishing combat and unpredictability on the battlefield are just a few of the reasons why the game has become so popular in just a short amount of time, and gamers all around the world are eagerly jumping into FromSoftware’s latest virtual adventure. A Twitch stream highlighting Elden Ring became the website’s third-biggest feed of all time mere days after the game’s release, and Elden Ring has already become the sixth most popular title in Steam history despite a Cloud Save error that has led to some players losing hours of progress. Even George RR Martin himself has gotten in on the fun, celebrating Elden Ring’s success by posting a picture of himself wearing Elden Ring’s Malenia helmet.

Elden Ring is a challenging game, and even the smallest of enemies can prove to be fatal to an unlucky Tarnished. This has led fans to share their most embarrassing in-game deaths on social media, from a beetle killing a Tarnished in the middle of an epic boss fight to a goat striking the killing blow right after the battle is won. In any case, Elden Ring continues to take the gaming world by storm, meaning that it’s only a matter of time before another unlucky player finds themselves on the receiving end of a truly humiliating death by one of Elden Ring’s lowliest creatures.
