Elden Ring's Thomas The Tank Engine Mod Makes Tree Sentinel Even Scarier

A recent mod for Elden Ring has added an interesting twist to the difficult FromSoftware title by replacing the Tree Sentinel's horse with none other than Thomas from Thomas the Tank Engine. The menacing and dangerous Tree Sentinel is one of the first optional bosses players will encounter in the game, and has been the subject of several Elden Ring memes due to the player base's unique relationship with it.
Elden Ring, like many other FromSoftware games, has seen its fair share of mods since its release. There are the usual cheat-style mods that allow players to speedily buff up their characters or effortlessly obtain rare gear, but there have also been a number of more outside-the-box mods that have smaller effects on gameplay. Some mods let players swap out their character model for one of the game's NPCs, while others have added quality-of-life improvements like the ability to pause the game. Desired features like a photo mode have also been added to the game courtesy of modders. Conversely, some mods exist to make Elden Ring even more difficult.
The Thomas the Tank Engine mod for Elden Ring was created by skymoon and uploaded to NexusMods by highsouled (via GameSpot). By downloading it, the Tree Sentinel's horse is replaced with Thomas, and while this doesn't appear to have any tangible effect on how the mini-boss functions, it does drastically change its appearance and the tone of the battle, putting some humor and levity into what can be a challenging enemy encounter.

Whether this Thomas the Tank Engine asset swap makes the Elden Ring fight against the Tree Sentinel more or less terrifying will be left for players to determine. This mod could be useful for those looking to shake things up on subsequent playthroughs, as the image of a heavily armored knight rushing into battle on the back of a sentient train is certainly memorable. On its own, however, it fits nicely with other player-made Thomas mods in games like Resident Evil and Skyrim.
For a game that has been available to the general gaming public for less than a month, Elden Ring has already received a surprising amount of interesting mods. As the game gets older and players learn more about its code, it will certainly be interesting to see what other goofy, experience-altering mods are revealed. For now, though, fans are sure to get a kick out of this Thomas the Tank Engine reskin.
