The Flash Season 9 Reportedly Likely At The CW | Screen Rant

The CW's The Flash season 9 is reportedly likely going to be confirmed by the network. The Flash is a spinoff show from Arrow, following Barry Allen, a metahuman who has the power to move at supersonic speeds. Grant Gustin plays the lead role of Barry Allen in The Flash, which is a rather faithful adaptation of the DC Comics for The CW.
Barry Allen first appeared in The CW's DC TV universe in 2013, as part of a two-part story arc in Arrow season 2, making The Flash one of the Arrowverse's first-ever crossovers. The positive reception of Gustin's performance led to the development of The Flash spinoff show that premiered in 2014 and fleshed out the hero's world in more detail. The Flash has continued since then, with season 8 currently airing on The CW and Gustin still leading the series.
According to THR, The Flash season 9 is a lock to be renewed. However, the publication does add that the end of the show is imminent, so that means season 9 could be the penultimate season or even the final season. The CW has not yet officially renewed The Flash for season 9. When, or if, they do, the network will likely give an indication if season 9 is to be The Flash's final season, as they did with Arrow season 8 and Supergirl season 6.

According to reports earlier this year, WarnerMedia and ViacomCBS are looking to sell The CW, which could impact the network's roster of shows. Over the 16 years it's been a network, The CW has gained a reputation for renewing shows that have dedicated fans, even if the series' ratings aren't very strong. The Flash has been one of the Arrowverse's most well-liked shows ever since it premiered in 2014, so it's understandable why The CW has kept it going, and may renew it for season 9. The network also continues to expand the Arrowverse, with characters like Booster Gold joining Legends of Tomorrow. Reports have indicated Booster Gold may appear in The Flash season 8, and if the show continues through season 9, there could be plenty more opportunity for crossover.
If The Flash does end with season 9, the Arrowverse would continue to pass the torch to The CW's newer DC shows. The Flash would be the last of the network's first three Arrowverse shows to come to an end following Arrow and Supergirl in 2020 and 2021, respectively. With The Flash season 8 teasing a major character death, the current run will no doubt have a major impact on the overall show. How it would continue into the potential The Flash season 9 and whether that would be the end of the Arrowverse series remains to be seen.
