ABC Cancels Alec Baldwin-Hosted Match Game Reboot | Screen Rant

ABC has decided to cancel Alec Baldwin's Match Game along with three of the network's other game shows. Based on the original panel game show hosted by Gene Rayburn in the ‘70s, the series has received several revivals over the years, with the recent reboot debuting in 2016. Produced by Fremantle, Match Game featured a rotating cast of celebrity panelists and contestants attempting to match answers to fill-in-the-blank questions to win a cash prize of $25,000.
Now, according to Variety, the network has decided to cancel four of its veteran shows: Baldwin’s Match Game, Card Sharks, Celebrity Dating Game, and The Hustler. ABC has said the decision to end the show doesn't have any relation to Baldwin’s highly-publicized accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the production set of Rust. Steve Harvey’s Celebrity Family Feud, Elizabeth Banks' Press Your Luck, and Michael Strahan’s The 100,000 Pyramid have all received a renewal for additional seasons.

In the wake of the fatal shooting last year, ABC had banned the usage of "live" weapons on The Rookie, changing their policy to improve the safety of their cast members and crew on set. Although this news comes after the civil lawsuits filed against Baldwin, it appears unlikely to be related to the show’s cancellation, as many other shows have received a cancellation or have yet to receive a decision, such as Supermarket Sweep and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. Moreover, production for Match Game halted before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, releasing in only two episodes being released in 2021.
