Bachelor: Serene Responds To Fans Who Say She Shouldn't Teach & Model

Teacher and former contestant on The Bachelor, Serene Russell came under fire from some fans who disapprove of her modeling while being an educator, and Serene didn’t hesitate to clap back. Serene was one of the women on Clayton Echard’s season of The Bachelor, and she quickly captured the lead’s attention. Clayton was impressed with not just her beauty, but her intelligence and dedication to her career as well.

Serene is an elementary school teacher and does some modeling on the side, and Clayton saw a lot of potential in her. Though Serene made it all the way to hometowns, Clayton ultimately eliminated her before fantasy suites week. However, in a way, Serene was lucky she wasn’t involved in the messy ending of Clayton’s Bachelor season. There were many in the audience who were disappointed that Serene didn’t become the lead for the upcoming season of The Bachelorette, but viewers might still see Serene on Bachelor in Paradise this summer. Serene’s heart was broken by Bachelor Clayton, but she seems to have recovered fully and is doing better than ever.

In an Instagram story, Serene shared a screenshot of some of the criticism she’s gotten from followers who don’t think it’s appropriate for a teacher to be doing modeling as well. Serene didn’t hesitate to set the record straight and stand up for herself. “Maybe if more people supported education and voted in favor of it I wouldn’t need a second job,” Serene commented, and explained just how hard it is to be a teacher. “I am emotionally and mentally spent by the time I get home to the point that I can’t complete normal functioning human tasks,” she said. Teachers are most often grossly underpaid, yet they put in tremendous effort, and it’s easy for them to feel unappreciated.

Former Bachelor contestant Serene also rightly pointed out that what teachers do outside of school and on their own time really isn’t anyone’s business. “Teachers ARE allowed to have personal lives,” she commented. “Y’all need to learn that you are a little too involved in women’s lives.” Serene’s modeling photos aren’t very racy, and she made the point that what she is wearing is no more revealing than your average bikini. She also said that her school’s administrators are well aware of her modeling and are in full support of her side gig. Serene’s critics are being unreasonable, and it’s completely understandable why Serene would feel the need to respond to their attempts to shame her.

Teaching is an undeniably tough profession, and Serene deserves a lot of respect for staying so committed to education. Though Serene didn’t get Clayton’s final rose, going on The Bachelor placed her in the public eye, so it’s no surprise that she has more people weighing in on her Instagram posts. Unfortunately, there are bound to be some critics, and Serene’s are trying to tell her what she can and can’t do outside the classroom. As viewers saw on the show, Serene is a strong and resilient woman who won’t be told how to behave. Serene has every right to pursue modeling in addition to teaching, and she won’t hesitate to let her haters know how little she cares about their opinion.
