Love Is Blind: Shake Chatterjee Speaks Out On Being Ostracized By Cast
Abhishek "Shake" Chatterjee, from the Netflix dating show Love Is Blind, is making headlines as he speaks out on how he was treated by his castmates during the reunion episode for season 2. After the show aired, Shake was labeled as the most villainous and disliked cast member of the season because of his actions on the show. While the cast members were still in the pods, Shake asked the women questions about their weight and bodies which made it seem like he was on the show for the wrong reason. Eventually, Shake fell in love with castmate Deepti Vempati and it appeared as though he had realized why he was on the show—to truly figure out whether love is blind.
Shake and Deepti eventually got engaged, but once they met in person, all was not well. When the engaged couples traveled to Mexico, it was evident that Shake was not attracted to Deepti and he voiced this to most of his castmates and some of his family, but not to Deepti. Upon noticing the uncertainty in Shake's feelings, Deepti declined to get married to him and left him at the altar. Deepti was applauded for her decision, and this was followed by worldwide support for the new reality star. During the reunion episode, the cast supported Deepti and chastised Shake for his behavior on the show. After the reunion episode, the friendship bond between Shake and some castmates was severed, and this led to Shake unfollowing those castmates on social media.
Shake has addressed his actions on the show and most recently, he has spoken out about how he felt "cast aside" by his castmates, according to US Magazine. On Shake's new podcast, Life is Blurry, he spoke with Stephanie Matto from the 90 Day Fiance franchise, and in the discussion, he admitted that he was aggravated at the reunion. He commented, "Everybody [was] just like, ‘Oh you’re the villain. All right, peace, dude. We don’t want to be friends with you.'" Shake attributes his behavior during the reunion episode to hurt feelings that stemmed from his castmates' behavior. The veterinarian also said he was confused as to why he was never approached by who he believed were his friends to discuss his actions. "Less than a week before the filming of the reunion, I was watching the Super Bowl with Deepti, Shayne [Jansen], Kyle [Abrams] … If you had all these things to say, why don’t you say it to me then?" he questioned.
In a clip of the interview posted on Love is Blind season 2 cast member Shake's Instagram account, Stephanie commented on her own reality tv experience. She said that during reunion episodes, questions are formulated in a manner that will cause cast members to incriminate themselves. Fans chimed in on the conversation and the support Shake received outweighed his further criticism. Instagram user Yung Mexican X said, "Bro I just watched the reunion episode and everyone was so weird towards you, acting like they’re any better smh." But, on the contrary, user Meeshel_21 commented, "Shake, you’re a self hating f@@l. I’m sure your mother and aunts are ashamed of you and the manner in which you conducted yourself on the show."
Despite the hate the Love Is Blind season 2 star has had to endure because of the show, Shake has managed to find love and is now dating a woman named Emily Wilson. The two started off with a long-distance relationship but recently, Shake hung up his veterinarian coat and moved to Miami to be closer to his newfound love and also to further his career as a DJ. The reality show has been renewed for season 3, which will premiere sometime in 2022.
