Most Convincing Disguised Cakes On “Is It Cake?” | ScreenRant

A streaming giant with a multitude of hit shows returning this week like Stranger Things and Somebody Feed Phil, Netflix has also been on a roll with presenting new series this year. Included in this category is the series Is It Cake? which is a baking show all about hidden cake.

In the series, the contestants have the challenge of creating some very convincing cakes modeled after real-world items like purses, animals, food, and toys. This may be complicated for those who are new to baking and even the most experienced bakers struggle with design, but Is It Cake? introduces 8 contestants that will blow viewers' minds with their recreations. There are some very greatly disguised cakes this season, and, some fakes even looked more real than the real items.

7 Podium Cake / Guess The Cake Round

In the final episode of season 1, Mikey Day surprises the final 3 contestants in the guess the cake? round when the podiums are revealed to be empty. Instead of guessing between themed items, they must decipher which of the podiums are cake.

Although the final three contestants guessed correctly, it didn't come too easily. All the gallery podiums looked the same with the same shine and height. For any normal person, this disguise would trick the eyes.

6 Seashell Cake / Andrew Fuller

With season 1 of Is It Cake? presenting a wide array of themes, fans have a few favorite episode themes that should be done in season 2. In the popular “Fake By The Ocean” episode, the contestants were tasked with recreating items one would take or see on a beach vacation. When it came to choosing their items, contestant Andrew chose to recreate a realistic seashell cake and it truly looked realistic.

Andrew made a dirty chai cake with a Saigon cinnamon buttercream and a spicy ganache. Not only did the judges find the cake delicious but they were also unable to decipher the cake from the real seashells. The details on the cake were immaculately done from every hump and ridge to the details in the stripes and lines. Because of these details, Andrew ultimately took the win in this episode.

5 Vegetable Cake / Steve Weiss

With the bakers having to recreate grocery items in the episode “Imposter In Aisle 5”, contestant Steve Weiss chooses to recreate a horned melon, asparagus, and cauliflower. Although a difficult take in regards to the number of items, Steve’s recreation would ultimately prove to be the most well-done decoy in this episode while also being considered one of the best cakes among fans of the show.

Called the “silent assassin”, Steve manages to fool the judges with his produce recreation down to the details of the horned melon and the tips and etches in the asparagus. The cake consisted of an almond cake with a milk chocolate ganache with a hint of orange zest. Considering the flavors and the details, his cake disguising skills proved to be top-notch in this challenge.

4 Elephant Cake / Hemu Basu

In episode 7 of the season, Mikey Day announces to the three competing contestants that they will need to recreate a chosen kids' toy to move to the final round of the competition. While contestants Dessiree and Sam chose a set of rubber ducks and a chess set respectively, contestant Hemu chose to go with an elephant toy.

Hemu created a chocolate elephant cake with raspberry-chocolate ganache, raspberry Swiss meringue buttercream, and chocolate. The cake details were amazingly done from the elephant's skin ridges, and trunk, to even the teeth on the elephant, its design helped fooled the judges. Hemu’s cake not only convincingly tricked the judges but also pushed her to the final round of the competition where she would eventually compete for $50,000.

3 Stone Statue Sculpture Cake / Hemu Basu

A cake that was definitely amazing to watch be created, Hemu Basu’s statue cake in season 1 episode 8 was spectacularly done. One of the best bakers from Is It Cake?, fans can follow Hemu’s Instagram to take a deeper look into her specialty of sculpted and structured cakes. With sculpting and details being her specialty, it was only right that the cake was beautifully designed.

The statue was made from vanilla cake with coffee Swiss meringue buttercream, toasted hazelnuts, and brownies. Although the judges were able to guess the cake from a scramble of luck, the details of the cake and bust looked like a real stone statue from the three-dimensional shape and carvings.

2 Cheeseburger Cake / Sam Cade

Contestant Sam Cade’s burger cake in episode 1 of the season was packed with detail. When the contestants are tasked with creating a fast food item from the presented items, Sam chose to recreate a cheeseburger with funfetti cake, sprinkle cream cheese, and vanilla buttercream.

Aside from the cake's delicious taste, Sam was able to incorporate every topping of a real cheeseburger into the details from the dripping sauce on the bun, to the lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes, everything was so hyper-realistic that it was a very well disguised cake from the viewer's eye. However, Sam’s cake was not able to fool the judges and was picked out of the lineup as fake.

1 Suitcase Cake / Andrew Fuller

Although the notion that looks matter more than taste is an unpopular opinion according to many fans, the show is all about fooling the judges by how good the cakes are disguised and this final episode pushed the notion. After Mikey Day states that the contestant gets to choose what kind of cake they'd like to create for a chance at $50,000, this opened the floor for a lot of ideas on the contestants' end.

With three amazing ideas from the contestants, the best of the bunch turned out to be Andrew Fuller’s recreation of a suitcase. This suitcase had everything from details to height and taste. Andrew’s suitcase consisted of a tiramisu cake and a baklava cake with flavors ranging from vanilla and pistachio cake, espresso and rose honey buttercream, mascarpone cheese, chocolate ganache, crushed pistachios, and some crushed ladyfingers. The details on the cake from the fake clothes hanging out the back, to the perfectly placed scratches and stickers, were able to fool the judges, and with the taste matching, Andrew took home the grand prize with this magnificent cake.
