Official Dune 2 Plot Synopsis Teases Bigger Role For Zendaya’s Chani
The official synopsis for Dune: Part Two suggests that Zendaya's Chani will have a central role in the blockbuster sequel compared to the first film. Director Denis Villeneuve has already begun filming Dune: Part Two well ahead of its planned production start in the fall, capitalizing on Warner Bros.' eagerness to follow up the first Dune's critical success and box office stardom. At the end of Villeneuve's reboot, Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) finally encounters the woman from his visions throughout the film: a Freman named Chani.
Zendaya's character is pivotal in Frank Herbert's Dune novels that serve as the basis for Villeneuve's films, but that fact is far from clear in the latter project. Chani has little screen time, predominately appearing in short snippets of Paul's foretellings of the future and toward the end of the film when she finally appears to him in person. Despite Villeneuve's story hints and the return of many of the first film's key players, the overarching plot of Part Two remained unclear.

Whereas Part One contained Paul's journey to the planet Arrakis, exploring the geopolitical struggles of spice control and the associated interclan warfare, Part Two expands the conflict immensely.
