Evil Dead Rise is both a fitting continuation of the iconic horror-verse established by Sam Raimi in the 1980s and a new vision told by a promising figure in modern horror. The first film in the franchise, The Evil Dead, was released in 1981 and spawned two direct sequels, a re-imagining, and a three-season television show before Evil Dead Rise came to be. Each entry in the franchise has done something decidedly new with the building blocks originally created by Raimi, but a tone and entertainment factor has persisted that makes Evil Dead, Evil Dead.
